OBX BikeWeek 2009

The 7th annual Outer Banks Bike Week for 2009 holds the promise of being the largest gathering of motorcyclists on the Outer Banks in history. Although officially beginning on Thursday, April 23, bikers and loud exhaust noises have been steadily growing for several days prior to the event. Many Local businesses, weakened by this year’s poor economy, have posted “Welcome Bikers” signs on their establishments hoping to cash in by serving the cash rich bikers riding mostly Harley-Davidson motorcycles as their numbers reach a crescendo by Saturday.
Many of these bikers come to Outer Banks Bike Week in search of excitement, camaraderie and escape from their normal daily routines back home. Throughout the 4 days of mayhem that many bikers are expecting, I hope to gather a few photographs and journal entries in an effort to bring you a small sampling of their stories. Enjoy the ride! Official Final attendance figures have not been released but the unofficial figure of 25,000 motorcyclists visiting the Outer Banks during this year's rally would indicate that OBX Bikeweek has become a growing event in the motorcycle world with larger crowds predicted for the future.

	Word from the streets today: A motorcyclist was injured when he pulled out of Walnut Island in Grandy and colided with a another vehicle. No word on his condition of if he had a passenger. Attendance seems to be up this year according to most of the bikers that were also here last year.
